Biography
The Olms formed as a pop/rock duo steeped in retro sensibilities, featuring singer/songwriter Pete Yorn alongside multi-disciplinary artist J.D. King, who also works as a musician and photographer. The pair first connected in the mid-2000s through King's girlfriend and kept in occasional contact thereafter. After Yorn encountered the 2008 album Here's J.D. King, he was struck by King's command of music and extended an invitation to tour together. Their focused songwriting and recording partnership began in autumn 2011 inside King's home studio in Bel Air, California. Yorn and King divided an array of instrumental tasks, trading guitar, drums, and keys while occasionally weaving clarinet, Jew's harp, and concertina into the relaxed arrangements. Once they settled on the name the Olms, the self-titled album reached completion in autumn 2012 and surfaced the following early summer through the relaunched Harvest Records imprint.
