Biography
Originating from three continents, the multi-ethnic quintet Third Planet unites Florence, Italy's Maurizio Dami on keyboards with fellow Italian Paolo Casu on various percussion instruments, Kurdistan, Iraq, native Nazar on vocals and saz, Algerian-born, rai-influenced Smail Kouider Aissa on vocals and keyboards, and Gujarat, India, native Rashmi V. Bhatt on tablas. The ensemble fuses its members' hugely varied musical backgrounds with danceable Western sounds while deploying both traditional and electronic instrumentation. Hearts of Space issued the group's self-titled debut album in the summer of 2000.
