Biography
Talkdemonic formed in December 2002 as an experimental indie rock duo, giving multi-instrumentalist Kevin O'Connor a vehicle for his deep interest in instrumental hip-hop and electronic music. Within the emerging "folktronic hop" movement, O'Connor handled drums, guitar, synths, bass, beat programming, and additional instruments while Lisa Molinaro contributed viola and synths. Over the span of a year the pair tracked their debut Mutinysunshine, which Portland's Lucky Madison released in April 2004. They then crisscrossed the United States alongside Modernstate, joining the Joggers and Menomena for several dates during the middle of that summer, and returned the following June for a West Coast run. In autumn 2005 Talkdemonic performed at CMJ Musicfest and, through the early months of 2006, shared stages with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and the National. Their second album, Beat Romantic, surfaced in March on Arena Rock. Shifting toward a more organic sound, the duo issued Eyes at Half Mast in 2008 and devoted extensive touring to its promotion. They reentered the studio in 2010 and kept refining their fourth record through the next year while supporting Modest Mouse on the road during summer 2011. Around the same period Talkdemonic joined the Glacial Pace Records roster, and the label brought out Ruins that October.
