Thomas Buttenschøn, a Danish alternative singer and songwriter, stepped onto the scene in 2006 through the hit single "Fantastiske Mandag." His sound spans pop, rock, jazz, and blues, and onstage he usually fronts a full band while playing guitar and delivering vocals. The material conveys his youthful outlook together with an indie sensibility that persists even after commercial breakthroughs. Born March 22, 1985, in Zambia, southern Africa, he grew up in Jutland, Denmark. At age 21 he issued the debut single "Fantastiske Mandag" on the independent label Noob Factory; the track became a hit and was followed later that year by the album Fantastiske Mandag (2006), which reached number 12 on the Danish albums chart and featured the popular song "Præsident I USA." In 2008 he scored Top Ten success with the album Billeder af Min Baggård and its lead single "Smukkere End Smuk." Around the same period he released the three-track demo EP Sovekammer Demoer II (2008) and joined producer Mathias Lyhne in the duo Lad De Små Børn Lege, resulting in the four-track EP Der Er Noget Galt I Himlen (2008) on Rust Music.
