Peter Sommer

Born on July 10, 1974, in Skanderborg, Denmark, Peter Sommer nurtured an early passion for music and composition before crossing paths with fellow musician Carsten Valentin Lassen in the mid-'90s. Together they launched the duo SuperJeg, with Sommer supplying lead vocals and bass while Lassen handled guitar and keyboards; their debut album Alt Er Ego appeared in 2001 to both critical and commercial acclaim, and the follow-up Øst/Vest followed in 2003. Although SuperJeg never formally disbanded, Sommer moved to Copenhagen in 2004 and launched his solo career with På den Anden Side, an understated indie-rock set that extended the melodic and lyrical experiments of his previous band and reached the Top Five on the Danish album chart.

The 2006 release Destruktive Vokaler repeated that commercial success and brought Sommer an award from Statens Kunstfond, while 2008's Til Rotterne, Til Kragerne, Til Hundene delivered the hit single "Rødt Kort," earned Danish Rock Album of the Year at the Danish Music Awards, and secured Sommer the honors of Danish Male Artist of the Year and Danish Songwriter of the Year. During the wait for his next solo album he formed the side project De Eneste To with actor and musician Simon Kvamm; their self-titled debut topped the Danish sales charts and achieved platinum status. Sommer returned to solo work with 2013's Alt Forladt, then reunited with Kvamm for De Eneste To's 2014 sophomore effort Dobbeltliv, which peaked at number three on the Danish LP charts. His 2018 album lskede at Drømme, Drømmer Om at Elske found him accompanied by road band Tiggerne on half the tracks and the jazz-influenced duo Bremer/McCoy on the remainder, earning a shortlist nomination for Danish Album of the Year at the Danish Music Awards.

Written and tracked with Tiggerne under a deliberately tight deadline to preserve the immediacy of their post-tour chemistry, 2020's Stærk Strøm Hen Over Ujævn Bund captured that spontaneous energy. Taking its title from the classic Danish musical romance film Forelsket i København, the 2022 album De Uforelskede I København highlighted Sommer's maturing craftsmanship through primarily acoustic arrangements and songs shaped by his affinity for chanson française. Shortly afterward he issued the companion recording De Uforelskede I Copenhagen Philharmonic, documenting a February 2022 concert at which he and Tiggerne revisited the material alongside the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra.
