Nephew first reached a national audience across Denmark in 2004 once “Movieclip,” a track that combined Danish and English lyrics, secured widespread radio play. The ensemble had already existed for eight years by that stage and had earlier stood on the verge of disbanding. Four music students enrolled at the University of Aarhus founded the group. Twelve months afterward the quartet advanced to the semifinals of the Danish Championship of Rock and launched a schedule of live performances, yet they still could not land a recording agreement; the original bassist departed and Kasper Toustrup took over the role. Their debut album, Swimming Time, finally appeared in 2000 through a small independent outlet. In 2001 the members chose to close their career with one final show in Germany. The concert proved so successful that they carried on and began writing fresh material, one result being “Movieclip.” Copenhagen Records signed them in 2004, releasing USADSB, which earned platinum certification at home after moving 40,000 copies. Interkom Kom Ind followed in 2006, and a live album and DVD recorded at the Roskilde Festival appeared the next year. The band also supplied Timbaland with three songs for Timbaland Presents Shock Value and delivered a remix of his “The Way I Are,” which brought them brief international attention.
