Drawing influence from acts like the Cure and Bloc Party, the Århus, Denmark outfit Veto came together in 2004 and swiftly rose to prominence throughout their home country. The alternative/electronic/modern progressive rock band Veto (Troels Abrahamsen -- vocals and synth, David Krogh Andersen -- guitar, Mark Lee -- guitar and synth, Jens Skov Thomsen -- bass and vocals, and Mads Hasager -- drums) inked a deal with Danish label Tabu, the imprint behind both their debut EP, 2005's I Will Not Listen, and their first full-length, There's a Beat in All Machines, which arrived in 2006. Early releases earned widespread praise and strong sales, leading to Veto claiming Best New Act and Best Danish Music Video honors at the 2007 Danish Music Awards. Veto returned in 2008 with fresh material that began with the March single "Built to Fail." Their sophomore album, Crushing Digits, followed soon afterward, landing that May and matching the reception of prior efforts.
