A multi-talented Dane, Tomas Barfod functions as DJ, drummer, and producer, shaping atmospheric electronic sounds both in solo projects and through work with additional artists. Raised in Denmark, he began drumming at ten. Late-'80s rave culture later prompted him to extend those skills into electronica and DJ performance. He established the electronic duo Filur in 1999 alongside DJ/producer Kasper Bjørke, issuing multiple albums including Exciting Comfort in 2001 and Deeply Superficial in 2002. Although primarily recognized for electronic production, Barfod retained his drumming practice and assembled the experimental jazz and pop trio WhoMadeWho in 2003 with guitarist Jeppe Kjellberg and vocalist/bassist Tomas Høffding. His solo output commenced with singles and EPs such as Northern Scapes in 2004, Neon Strobe in 2005, Mr. Fleurquin in 2008, and Broken Glass in 2009. The debut full-length Salton Sea arrived in 2012 and received acclaim from critics and listeners alike for its expansive electronic production that encompassed dance music, pop, and instrumental soundscapes. Two years afterward came the sophomore album Love Me, which incorporated collaborations with Nina K and Luke Temple. Barfod next released Paloma in 2017, featuring the tracks "Things That Matter," with the Raveonettes' Sharin Foo, and "Family," with Jonas Smith.
