Denmark's the Asteroids Galaxy Tour infused a modern edge into the sleek late-'60s soundscape shaped by Burt Bacharach, Sly Stone, and Barbarella. Multi-instrumentalist Lars Iversen and vocalist Mette Lindberg launched the project in 2007. A demo that had only recently circulated reached Amy Winehouse, prompting the superstar to book the duo for an opening slot during her Copenhagen stop; that first show marked their live debut. Universal soon offered a major-label deal, issuing the 2008 single "The Sun Ain't Shining No More." While the band readied its first album and broadened the stage lineup to six members, the B-52's-flavored, retro-party track appeared in an Apple commercial for the iPod Touch. The 2009 full-length Fruit collected that single among other playful numbers. By 2012's Out of Frequency the Asteroids Galaxy Tour had shifted toward a broader, more polished aesthetic. Refinement continued on Bring Us Together, the 2014 Hot Bus Records release in which the core duo folded hip-hop, reggae, P-funk-style funk, and direct pop into their already happily over-stuffed mix.
