Biography
Thunderpussy emerged in late 2013 as a boisterous quartet of women from the Pacific Northwest, blending sharp indie-rock instincts with expansive arena-rock energy, laced with wit and theatrical flair. The Seattle-based group came together with Molly Sides handling vocals after her time in This Bitch Don't Fall Off, Whitney Petty on guitar following her stint in the Grizzled Mighty, bassist Leah Julius formerly of Cumulus and Sundries, and Lena Simon behind the kit while also active in La Luz and Kairos. Their rapid ascent on the local scene was underscored when an online music publication hailed their second performance as the strongest concert of that year. Steady regional gigs followed until Simon exited in 2016 and Ruby Dunphy stepped in on drums.
That September the band entered the studio with Sylvia Massy to record their debut album amid competing label proposals. Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready then offered them a single on his HockeyTalkter Records label, resulting in the 7-inch “Velvet Noose” b/w “No Heaven” that featured his guitar contributions. The association with the prominent Seattle musician broadened the quartet’s profile beyond the Pacific Northwest. By the close of 2017 they signed with the Universal-backed Stardog imprint, which promptly released their energetic rendition of the holiday standard “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).” Stardog followed in February 2018 with the four-track EP Greatest Tits, drawn from earlier digital singles.
