Emerging from New York City's Latin club scenes, the trio of Tony, Kayel, and Angel—known professionally as TKA—landed their initial major opportunity at a sweet 16 birthday party. An A&R representative from Tommy Boy attended, heard their love ballad harmonies layered over hip-hop beats, and arranged an immediate signing in 1987. Scars of Love appeared later that year, with Louder That Love arriving in 1991 and a greatest hits album following in 1992.
