Positioned in a space bridging Calvin Harris and Junior Senior, dance-pop vocalist Tommy Sparks emerged during 2009 via the polished nightclub track "She's Got Me Dancing." Although born in Gothenburg, Sweden, he grew up in Stockholm, where his initial passion centered on hip-hop before shifting toward the alternative rock sounds of the Pixies and Sonic Youth. Toward the close of his teenage years, dance music captured his attention through his latest obsession, the Prodigy. Upon relocating to London, he assembled the band Vatican DC. Following a two-year stretch of live shows, singles, and EPs, the outfit dissolved, thereby initiating Sparks' individual path. Early in 2009 he collaborated with his heroes by supplying vocals for the Prodigy B-side "Wild West." That May he repeated the arrangement with Filthy Dukes, this time placing "Messages" as the A-side and focal point of the group's Nonsense in the Dark album. Shortly afterward his own hit single "She's Got Me Dancing" appeared on the Island label, succeeded in August by his self-titled debut album.
