Tone Damli Aaberge, the Norwegian pop singer born April 12, 1988, in Sogndal, Norway, and now residing in Oslo, first attracted widespread attention during 2005 as a contestant on the third season of the television talent program Idol: Jakten På En Superstjerne. Although she finished as runner-up to Jorun Stiansen in the final episode, the exposure led to a recording contract with EMI, prompting the swift release later that year of her debut album Bliss. An English-language project that climbed to number 14 on the Norwegian albums chart, the record was introduced by its lead single “The Bliss Song” and followed by the additional track “Somewhere Soft to Land.” Her listed musical influences encompass Jeff Buckley, Radka Toneff, Joni Mitchell, Sidsel Endresen, and Norah Jones. In 2006 she returned to national television, placing third on the second season of Dancing with the Stars. The 2007 album Sweet Fever outperformed its predecessor by reaching the Top Ten and yielding the singles “Fever,” itself a Top Ten hit, and “Young and Foolish.” Her third studio effort, I Know, arrived in 2009 and advanced to number three on the albums chart while generating the Top Five singles “Butterflies” and “I Know.” That same year she again finished second, this time in the Norwegian selection round for the Eurovision Song Contest, where “Butterflies” placed behind Alexander Rybak’s winning entry.
