Biography
Formed in the United Kingdom, TransGlobal Underground functions as an ensemble devoted to merging the widest possible spectrum of global sounds that its participants can access. At the center stand vocalist Natacha Atlas, whose prior sessions encompass Jah Wobble, Apache Indian, and her own Atlas Project, keyboardist Alex Kasiek, drum programmer Man Tu, and founder Count Dubulah, who supplies bass lines and sampling. The undertaking originated in a collective passion for dance rhythms, experimental forms, Arabic traditions, and world music at large, channeling the distinct listening habits and cultural roots of every member. Its first album, Dream of 100 Nations, appeared in 1994 and was promptly followed by International Times. After Interplanetary Meltdown in 1995, TransGlobal Underground resurfaced in 1997 with Psychic Karaoke; Rejoice, Rejoice arrived the next year, and Yes Boss Food Center surfaced in spring 2001.
