Biography
Tugboat Annie launched their career in 1992 and have sustained an aggressively bouncy noise pop approach within Boston’s local circuit ever since. The group’s roster includes Mike Bethmann on vocals and guitar, Jay Celeste on guitar, Jon Sulkow on bass, and Tim Barrett on drums. Their recorded output began with a split seven-inch shared with Crazy Alive in 1993 and continued with another split seven-inch alongside Milf the next year. In 1995 Sonic Bubblegum Records issued the Jack Knife EP and then the band’s debut full-length, Superfriends. Big Top Records signed the band in 1996, leading to the 1997 release of their second album, Wake Up And Disappear, which was promoted by an extensive United States tour that occupied the rest of that year. After returning to Boston, the Separation Songs EP surfaced in 1998, and The Space Around You followed two years later.
