Known worldwide for his singular approach to dance music that critics have labeled "the Eastern Sound" and occasionally regard as its own distinct category, German electro-house producer Tujamo, real name Matthias Richter, has earned international acclaim and consistent chart placements. His releases have registered on global rankings, while his slower-tempo anthems have energized crowds at clubs stretching from China and Russia to New York and Los Angeles.
Richter first developed a serious interest in music during adolescence and started performing as a DJ at age 17. One year afterward, in 2006, he captured first place in a talent contest staged at Club Index, a storied nightclub in Schüttorf, Germany, and subsequently held a residency slot there. That same year he began issuing original productions under the Tujamo moniker, although his debut single, "Mombasa," did not surface until 2011. The following year he scored his first dance-chart success with "Who," a joint production alongside fellow German act Plastik Funk; the track received support from prominent figures such as Avicii and ignited dance floors at the Winter Music Conference, Miami’s celebrated house-music gathering.
Tujamo notched his initial mainstream breakthrough in 2013 via the Steve Aoki and Chris Lake collaboration "Boneless," which reached number 49 on the German singles chart. An even larger commercial peak arrived the next year when a revised edition of "Who," retitled "Dr. Who" and featuring British rapper Sneakbo, climbed to number 21 on the U.K. singles chart. He simultaneously built recognition as a remixer for Bob Sinclar, Peter Gelderblom, and Wynter Gordon, while touring extensively across Germany and abroad, including a circuit through South America. In 2018 the single "With U," which showcased Karen Harding, was selected as the official anthem for that year’s Untold Festival. Further releases followed in 2019 with "Get Up," "Getting Money," and "Hell Yeah."
