Biography
Tyler Collins, known as Diva, entered the world in Harlem before her upbringing shifted to Detroit, where dance training commenced at seven and her first stage appearance followed at eight. After moving to Los Angeles, she devoted herself to theatrical work, performing across numerous musicals and dramas before becoming a member of the Willow Opera Workshop, the children’s ensemble. Collins entered the teen R&B outfit the Boys Next Door in 1987 and soon placed her signature on Jermaine Jackson’s brief Work Records imprint; two years afterward she exited the ensemble to launch her independent path, issuing the debut album Girls Nite Out and achieving notable success with its title song alongside “Whatcha Gonna Do.” While contributing material to artists such as Celine Dion, Jeffrey Osborne, and Shanice, she stepped back into acting in 1991 with a role in the motion picture A Rage in Harlem, then resumed her recording trajectory the following year via the album Tyler. The 1994 single “Thanks to You,” drawn from the soundtrack of the film Andre, further extended her chart presence.
