Biography
Ulf Lohmann crafts expansive, experimental techno for Kompakt, underscoring how the Cologne, Germany imprint matches the sonic variety found across other independents in the connected marketplace. Alongside fellow Kompakt mainstays Olaf Dettinger and Markus Guentner, he prioritizes mood and texture instead of beats while maintaining broad appeal in line with the label’s emphasis on pop’s straightforward pleasures. His debut outing, the Because EP, arrived in March 2001, followed later that year by the full-length Because/Before. In doing so he became the fifth artist, after Dettinger, Jonas Bering, Reinhard Voigt, and Guentner, to issue a solo LP on the label.
