We Are Shining

Formed in London, the electronic outfit We Are Shining unites Acayde with Morgan Zarate. From the outset the pair shaped vocal-driven rhythms while refusing to lock themselves into any single style. Their first release, the 2013 track “Wheel,” drew strong attention and led directly to an invitation to collaborate with Eliza Doolittle. Together they crafted the pop-house cut “Killing,” which they paired with an unconventional video. A further joint effort produced the single “Devileye,” this time featuring alternative pop artist Roses Gabor. The project’s first full-length outing, Kara, appeared in 2014 via Marathon Artists and blended vintage soul textures with contemporary electronics, incorporating appearances by Shingai Shoniwa, Mallie, and ESKA. British vocalist FKA Twigs co-wrote the track “Breaks.” Impressed by “Hot Love,” American producer Kanye West sought out the duo and summoned them to his Paris studio to preview additional material. Although he extended an offer to sign them to his G.O.O.D. imprint, the pair had already committed to a London label.
