Weeping Icon emerged from Brooklyn as a punk outfit whose sound fused raw sonic aggression with pointed social critique, ranking among the scene’s most viciously intense propositions. Drawing equal inspiration from hardcore’s seething indignation and the mechanical dread of industrial and extreme noise, the quartet unleashed these elements across their self-titled debut album in 2019.

The group crystallized after the 2015 demise of the cryptic rock band Advaeta, whose guitarist/vocalist Sara Fantry and drummer Lani Combier-Kapel had previously driven that project. Once Advaeta ended, the two musicians kept playing together but steered their sessions toward harsher textures. Bassist Sarah Reinold and electronic noise contributor Sarah Lutkenhaus completed the lineup, giving shape to the new band. Weeping Icon soon gigged throughout Brooklyn’s D.I.Y. network, constructing live sets that linked compact songs with stretches of abrasive noise or atmospheric passages. The same relentless dynamic was captured on their first EP, Eyeball Under, issued in 2017. Two years afterward, the self-titled full-length appeared via a co-release from Fire Talk Records and Kanine Records.
