Biography
Casey Dienel, a native of Massachusetts, channels her songwriting through the project known as White Hinterland, where jazzy arrangements intermingle with experimental electronic pop and folk elements. She launched her solo career in 2006 under her own name via the Hush Records release Wind-Up Canary. Early in 2008 she resurfaced under the White Hinterland moniker, inking a deal with Dead Oceans for the acoustic-leaning Phylactery Factory. Two years afterward came the widely praised Kairos, whose pronounced turn toward synth-driven textures brought noticeably wider attention. Having spent time in Portland, Oregon, Dienel moved back to her Massachusetts roots to record and self-produce the third album; the 2014 outcome, Baby, further stretched her palette into R&B alongside mainstream dance-pop. Across the ensuing two years she issued two additional standalone singles as White Hinterland, then returned to releasing material under her given name with 2017’s Imitation of a Woman to Love.
