Biography
Originally schoolmates in North London, Lou Hill, Gareth Jones, and James Parish formed an initial group before leaving for university studies. At Brighton University vocalist Lou Hill connected with Darrell Hawkins, who became the trio’s guitarist. After performing briefly as Ex-Lion Tamers the quartet returned to London to concentrate on music. In 2009 they renamed themselves Wild Palms and issued their first single, Over Time. One Little Indian signed them in 2010, after which the post-punk-styled tracks Deep Dive and To the Lighthouse appeared ahead of the band’s debut album the following year. Gareth Jones, whose credits include Erasure, Wire, and Depeche Mode, produced Until Spring, steering the group toward a densely textured and wider-ranging indie rock approach instead of their prior post-punk identity. While touring the record through the remainder of 2011 with additional guitarist Bobby Krlic of the Haxan Cloak, the members began sketching new songs yet ultimately abandoned every idea and restarted. Withdrawing from prevailing sounds and external stimuli, Wild Palms spent the next several years completing their second album. Taking cues from Silver Apples, Madlib, and Portishead, Live Together, Eat Each Other was scheduled for mid-2016 release.
