Born in Munich on September 6, 1961, Willy Astor rose to prominence as a Bavarian German cabaret performer, musician, comedian, and songwriter. At fourteen he first appeared onstage with the group Akkordeonspiel. Although he later studied engineering at university, Astor committed to a public career in the early 1980s. Success accelerated through the 1990s after his initial television appearance in 1993, which opened the door to a series of well-received albums. In roughly twenty years he mounted nearly twenty cabaret productions. During that span, a 1998 collaboration produced the song “FC Bayern -- Stern des Sudens,” selected as the official anthem of the very successful and very popular Bavarian soccer club Bayern Munich. In 2008 he issued the career retrospective Der Bestimmer 2008.
