In the mid-1990s Philadelphia saw the arrival of Wykked Wytch, a melodic blend of black, thrash, and death metal fronted by the unpredictable vocalist Ipek. Their debut, Something Wykked This Way Comes, appeared in 1996 on Ipek’s own Cauldron imprint. Demolition soon secured European rights, raising the band’s profile overseas. Frequent lineup shifts occupied the next several years, postponing new recordings until 1999. After further studio work, the group issued its second album, Angelic Vengance, in the fall of 2001. The record found particular favor across Europe, earning Wykked Wytch a support slot on the Hell Comes to Your Town Tour II alongside Kreator, Sodom, and Destruction. Nefret, the third album, surfaced in 2004 via Demolition/Dreamcatcher and led to steady road work, including an opening slot with Deicide in 2005. Although a contract with SixSixSix Records was reached, the arrangement dissolved, leaving the band to finance and promote its fourth release, 2007’s Memories of a Dying Whore, independently.
