Biography
Yung Berg, a Chicago native, stayed out of the spotlight in the music business throughout the early 2000s until his single "Sexy Lady" took off in 2007. Already at fifteen he had landed a deal with Bloodline Records, the fledgling imprint started by DMX, but his parents quickly withdrew him and sent him to a military boarding school in Montana in 2001. Several years later, after finishing that schooling, he headed to Los Angeles to restart his career. In 2005 he took a role supporting Disturbing tha Peace member and Chicago rapper Shawnna, working as a hype man while also supplying vocals and songwriting in the studio. Soon afterward he formed his own Yung Boss imprint, wrote songs for other rappers, and saw his production team Yung Bosses—joined by JFK and Rob Holiday—place tracks with Eve, Juelz Santana, Memphis Bleek, and Shawnna. Once he sent "Sexy Lady" to Los Angeles radio it became a local hit. Major labels quickly offered deals, yet he ultimately signed with Epic Records. The six-track EP Almost Famous appeared in July 2007. Before his debut album Look What You Made Me arrived in summer 2008, the hit single "Sexy Can I," a collaboration with singer Ray J, was released.
