49 Winchester

Despite a name that suggests ruggedness, 49 Winchester often leans into gentler textures through layered harmonies and reflective lyricism. Rooted in Appalachian traditions, the Americana outfit merges Red Dirt troubadour country with classic folk elements while retaining the capacity for rowdier moments. That approach first surfaced on their 2014 self-titled debut, after which the band logged countless miles at clubs, festivals, and other venues to expand their reach. Persistent touring eventually secured a deal with New West Records, resulting in the 2022 album Fortune Favors the Bold and the growing anticipation that preceded Leavin' This Holler in 2024.

The musicians formed in Castlewood, Virginia, a small town where lead vocalist and guitarist Isaac Gibson drew the band's name from the street number of his childhood residence. Following high-school graduation in 2013, Gibson and neighbor Chase Chafin started the project and soon welcomed guitarist Bus Shelton; drummer Justin Louthian, keyboardist Tim Hall, and pedal steel guitarist Noah Patrick completed the roster later.

Their 2014 debut consisted of ten Gibson originals. Continued roadwork after its release strengthened their following and led to the 2018 album The Wind. The Bigtone Sessions EP, named for Bigtone Records in Bristol, Virginia, arrived in 2020 and preceded the third full-length, III, whose promotion coincided with an expanding live itinerary. In 2022 the group joined New West Records for Fortune Favors the Bold, whose rising profile gained an extra boost when mainstream country star Luke Combs shared support on social media.

Throughout 2023 the band sustained momentum with steady performances and issued the September single "Everlasting Lover"/"Chemistry." The next album cycle opened in April 2024 with the release of "Yearnin' for You," the lead single from Leavin' This Holler, which followed in August.
