Brothers Osborne craft a modern country sound that draws from outlaw traditions yet incorporates contemporary funk elements, setting them apart from the bluegrass legends who share a similar name. Their approach came into focus on the 2016 debut Pawn Shop, which centered on the breakthrough single "Stay a Little Longer." The follow-up Port Saint Joe arrived in 2018 and revealed greater ambition, strengthening the duo’s Southern rock foundation while highlighting fresh R&B touches; both that record and the 2020 release Skeletons reached the Top Five on the country albums chart. A self-titled project issued in 2023 reflected further expansion under the guidance of pop producer Mike Elizondo.

John and T.J. Osborne were raised in Deale, Maryland, where they absorbed their father’s collection of country and rock albums. Encouraged to compose and perform original material, the siblings rehearsed in a backyard shed and later formed the cover group Deuce & a Quarter, delivering songs by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Merle Haggard, and Bob Seger in neighborhood venues. John relocated to Nashville first, with T.J. joining him two years later, at which point Brothers Osborne officially began.

A 2011 publishing agreement with Warner-Chappell/King Pen Music preceded their 2012 recording contract with Capitol. The debut single “Let’s Go There” surfaced in 2013, followed by “Rum” the next year. A re-recorded version of the earlier EP cut “Stay a Little Longer” emerged in 2015; produced by Jay Joyce, whose past collaborators include Emmylou Harris, Keith Urban, and Faith Hill, the track climbed to number four on Billboard’s country chart, earned platinum certification, and secured the duo’s first Grammy nomination.

Pawn Shop, also helmed by Joyce, appeared in 2016 and featured both “Stay a Little Longer” and “Rum” alongside later charting singles “21 Summer” and “It Ain’t My Fault.” The brothers soon collected Vocal Duo of the Year honors at the CMA and ACM Awards, while both new singles earned Grammy nods. Their second studio album, Port Saint Joe, reached stores in April 2018 and spotlighted the whiskey-soaked single “Shoot Me Straight” plus “I Don’t Remember Me (Before You).” That project garnered Grammy nominations for Best Country Album as well as two Best Country Duo/Group Performance citations—one for “Shoot Me Straight” in 2018 and another for “I Don’t Remember Me (Before You)” the following year. October 2019 brought the concert recording Live at the Ryman.

Reuniting with Jay Joyce, Brothers Osborne delivered their third studio set, Skeletons, in 2020; it peaked at number four on the country chart and entered the Top 50 of the Billboard 200. “Younger Me,” added to the 2022 deluxe edition, earned yet another Grammy nomination. Early 2023 introduced the three-song sampler Nobody’s Nobody, whose title track offered the first preview of sessions overseen by Mike Elizondo, a producer whose résumé spans work with Eminem, Gary Clark, Jr., Fiona Apple, and Turnstile. Elizondo also guided the full-length Brothers Osborne, which arrived in September 2023.
