Originating from Georgia, singer-songwriter Brantley Gilbert shapes a fresh approach to classic country by drawing on the country-pop and arena rock blends of the 1990s while welcoming understated touches of contemporary R&B and electronic sounds. Shortly after his intense, minor-key rocker "Country Must Be Country Wide" reached the top spot in 2011, two earlier compositions—"Dirt Road Anthem" and "My Kinda Party"—turned into major successes for Jason Aldean, cementing Gilbert's own ascent. Anchored by the breakout track "Bottoms Up," the platinum-certified Just as I Am from 2014 claimed the country summit, a position his following pair of releases would also attain. Throughout this period he accumulated additional successes such as the 2016 single "The Weekend" and the Lindsay Ell duet "What Happens in a Small Town" from his 2019 album Fire & Brimstone. Entering the subsequent decade, Gilbert emphasized prominent team-ups with Toby Keith, Blake Shelton, Vince Gill, and Aldean, each contributing to his 2022 album So Help Me God. His ensuing record, 2024's Tattoos, likewise featured numerous guests including Ashley Cooke, Justin Moore, and additional artists.

Gilbert entered the world in the modest community of Jefferson, Georgia, near Athens. Early exposure to country was complemented by alt-rock and the bold Southern rock of Lynyrd Skynyrd, elements he fuses at his strongest. A serious car crash at age 19 prompted full commitment to music, leading him to compose songs more seriously and begin with solo acoustic performances before assembling a band capable of delivering his high-energy country-rock-soul vision.

After relocating to Nashville, he secured a deal with Warner Chappell Publishing and worked toward finishing a project. Modern Day Prodigal Son surfaced in 2009 on Average Joe's, the same label that issued the 2010 successor Halfway to Heaven. In 2011 Gilbert joined Big Machine's Valory Music imprint, prompting the label to re-release Halfway to Heaven. Bolstered by Valory, the album gained traction as both "Country Must Be Country Wide" and "You Don't Know Her Like I Do" ascended to number one on the U.S. country chart and earned platinum status. Concurrently, Jason Aldean selected "My Kinda Party" from Gilbert's debut for the title track of his own chart-topping fourth album, while also achieving strong results with "Dirt Road Anthem," the country-rap track Gilbert co-wrote with Colt Ford and whose own rendition appeared on Halfway to Heaven.

By the close of 2013, sessions for his subsequent album with producer Dann Huff had concluded. The December single "Bottoms Up" became Gilbert's largest success yet, hitting number one and surpassing a million copies sold. Its momentum built anticipation for Just as I Am, issued in May 2014. That release topped the Billboard country chart and reached number two on the Top 200, later attaining platinum certification through the impact of singles including "Bottoms Up," "Small Town Throwdown," "One Hell of an Amen," and "Stone Cold Sober." During summer 2016 he unveiled "The Weekend" as the initial preview of his fourth album The Devil Don't Sleep. The track earned another Top Ten placement, and the January 2017 album secured Gilbert's second straight number one while producing the further hit "The Ones That Like Me." Early in 2019 he collaborated with Canadian country performer Lindsay Ell on "What Happens in a Small Town," another Top Ten entry that propelled his fifth album Fire & Brimstone to a fresh number one position.

Throughout the 2020s Gilbert intensified his focus on joint efforts, linking with Hardy and Toby Keith on the driving country anthem "The Worst Country Song of All Time," then following with "Heaven by Then" that included Blake Shelton and Vince Gill. These tracks, joined by the Aldean collaboration "Rolex® on a Redneck" and "Son of the Dirty South" featuring Jelly Roll, all appeared on Gilbert's sixth studio album So Help Me God. Issued in November 2022, it peaked at number 32 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart. During 2024 he teamed with Ashley Cooke for the charting single "Over When We're Sober" and with Struggle Jennings and Demun Jones for the assertive "Me and My House." Both tracks featured on his guest-filled seventh album Tattoos, released that September and also containing contributions from Justin Moore and Gary LeVox.
