Biography
Russell Dickerson aligns with a cohort of country artists such as Sam Hunt and Thomas Rhett who weave contemporary R&B grooves into gleaming, melody-driven mainstream country-pop. Momentum first built for him toward the end of 2015 via the single "Yours," which climbed to number one on Country Airplay in 2017 and initiated a run of three chart-topping country singles that also encompassed "Blue Tacoma" and "Every Little Thing" in 2018, clearing the path for his sophomore album Southern Symphony in 2020. Two years afterward he delivered his third full-length, the self-titled Russell Dickerson, which housed the hit "She Likes It," then sustained activity throughout 2023 by issuing an expanded edition of that album, the deluxe version of The Afterparty, the summery Three Months Two Streets Down EP, and Bones The EP in 2024.
A lifelong Nashville resident, Dickerson absorbed the city's music scene from childhood and committed to a professional path by college, ultimately earning a music degree from Belmont University. In 2010 he secured management through Creative Artists Agency, which arranged both a publishing contract and performance representation. His initial solo single "That's My Girl" from 2011 failed to register, yet "Green Light" achieved satellite-radio traction in 2013. Over the ensuing seasons his sound shifted toward pop, a direction that bore fruit when "Yours" broke through at country radio in late 2015 and prompted the Yours EP in 2016. That project expanded into a full album the next year, peaking at number five on Billboard's Country Albums Chart and yielding further successes with "Blue Tacoma" and the gold-certified "Every Little Thing."
February 2020 brought the single "Love You Like I Used To," which reached number five on Billboard's Country Songs chart and set the stage for his second LP. Southern Symphony arrived in December 2020, featuring a collaboration with Florida Georgia Line, spawning the additional Top 30 country single "Home Sweet," and attaining number 14 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart. Early 2022 saw the platinum-certified release of "She Likes It" featuring Jack Scott, which later surfaced on Russell Dickerson; the November album found him striking a more introspective pose while still serving up chart-topping country-pop cuts such as "I Wonder" and the Jake Scott-assisted "She Likes It." The breezy, coastal-themed EP Three Months Two Streets Down appeared the following year alongside the expanded self-titled album The Afterparty, which added ten tracks including the single "Red Dirt Church" featuring Needtobreathe. Bones The EP arrived in August 2024.
