Born in Jackson, Tennessee, Brandon Lay grew up under the guidance of a father who served as a minister and a mother employed in education. This small-town foundation nurtured his identity as a country songwriter whose rock & roll spirit remained firmly intact. Teenage years brought an expanding range of influences stretching from Don Williams and Elvis Presley to Def Leppard. After finishing high school he entered nearby Union University and suited up for its basketball team. During his second year on campus his musical curiosity deepened, prompting him to perform both covers and original material at local venues. He completed his studies at Union in 2010 and promptly relocated to Nashville in pursuit of a professional career in music.

A following quickly formed across college towns as he headlined club dates and supported established country artists such as Dierks Bentley, Cole Swindell, Eli Young Band, Hank Williams, Jr., and Brantley Gilbert. A publishing contract with Warner/Chappell arrived in 2013. Three years later Cole Swindell placed “Home Game,” co-written by Brandon, on his second album, You Should Be Here. A recording agreement with EMI/Universal followed in 2017, leading to the August release of his first single, “Speakers, Bleachers, and Preachers” b/w “Let It.” The A-side, drawn from Lay’s high-school memories, surpassed one million streams in under a month, after which he confirmed that his debut full-length album would arrive in 2018.
