Biography
Chris Lane emerged within a cluster of modern country performers shaped by the R&B-leaning path Sam Hunt opened in 2014, concentrating on affectionate numbers that balance polish with vitality. Although his earliest prominent opening slot came alongside Florida Georgia Line in 2014, reflecting bro-country origins, the 2016 major-label debut Girl Problems already leaned toward a gentler sensibility. Two years afterward he delivered the follow-up Laps Around the Sun, which featured the number-one single "I Don't Know About You," and he scored again in 2019 with the romantic track "Big, Big Plans." A series of strong releases followed in 2021, among them the energetic "Fill Them Boots" and the reflective ballad "Stop Coming Over," before the EP From Where I'm Sippin' appeared in 2023.
Born with his identical twin Cory on November 9, 1984, in Kernersville, North Carolina, Chris Lane played baseball through high school and college until injuries ended any professional prospects. He then picked up guitar and joined a cover band. An unsuccessful American Idol audition with Cory occurred in 2007, yet connections soon formed when he encountered Seth England of Big Loud Records, the imprint that would later sign him. Lane assembled the Chris Lane Band, which issued Let's Ride on Loradale Drive Records; afterward he dissolved the group, relocated to Nashville, and secured his Big Loud deal. In 2014 he joined Florida Georgia Line on tour and issued the debut single "Broken Windshield View."
That driving country number failed to reach Billboard's Country Top 40, prompting a stylistic overhaul of his forthcoming album toward a smoother, soul-infused sound reminiscent of Sam Hunt. The first result, "Fix," surfaced in 2015 and climbed to number eleven on the U.S. Country Charts. An EP followed that November, then the 2016 singles "Let Me Love You" and "For Her" preceded Girl Problems in late summer; the set reached number eight on the Country chart and was later complemented by a full acoustic rendition. "Take Back Home Girl," a September 2017 duet with Tori Kelly, later appeared on Laps Around the Sun, released in July 2018. Late June 2019 brought the platinum-certified romantic single "Big, Big Plans," written weeks earlier as a marriage proposal. Two years afterward came further charting tracks such as "Fill Them Boots," "Summer Job Money," and the tender "Stop Coming Over," with the romantic single "Mistake" included on the 2023 EP From Where I'm Sippin'.
