Biography
Rock-influenced country singer and songwriter Chase Bryant registered his earliest chart impact with the single "Take It On Back" while still too young to purchase alcohol. His self-titled debut EP blended modern country songcraft and production values with rhythmic drive and attitude drawn from classic rock, quickly positioning him as an emerging talent; the more streamlined 2017 release "Hell If I Know" added to his radio profile. Following an interval of personal difficulty, he reappeared in 2021 with the reflective album Upbringing. That same inward focus shaped his 2024 project Clio.
Born in Orange Grove, Texas, in 1993, Bryant grew up immersed in music through family ties: his grandfather Jimmy Bryant had been a renowned Nashville session guitarist, while uncles Jeff Bryant and Junior Bryant helped form the country group Ricochet. Jerry Lee Lewis records belonging to his grandfather ignited his interest at age three; during adolescence he absorbed Tom Petty and Bryan Adams alongside Bob Wills, Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard, Vince Gill, and Keith Urban. He penned his first song at eleven, its theme a classic country heartbreak. Limited studio access in Orange Grove prompted him to build a makeshift recording space inside a closet. After high school he relocated to Nashville in search of publishing opportunities. Jimmy Bryant’s prior work with Roy Orbison opened the door to a deal with Barbara Orbison, Roy’s widow and a prominent Music City publisher. Red Bow Records soon signed him, and label A&R personnel, impressed by his demos, permitted him to co-produce his own recordings. The summer 2014 single "Take It On Back" climbed to number 27 on the country airplay chart and reached the Top 40 on the country singles survey.
Both tracks later surfaced on the five-song 2014 EP Chase Bryant, which also contained the country hits "Little Bit of You" and "Change Your Name." Issued in 2017, "Hell If I Know" adopted a more commercial sheen with dance-oriented beats and performed strongly across radio and streaming platforms. Severe depression derailed his momentum; in 2018 he survived a suicide attempt after his shotgun misfired. Reassessing his path, Bryant resumed his career independently, unveiling the album Upbringing in 2021. Creating new music also eased his emotional load, and in subsequent years he began advocating publicly for mental health awareness. Several EPs preceded the self-produced 2024 album Clio, whose title references the Greek muse of history and whose songs trace the artist’s personal evolution.
