Biography
Riley Green delivers straightforward country songs centered on trucks, beer, and boots, frequently driven by a strong rhythm that echoes the line-dancing energy of the 1990s. This perspective took clear form on his 2020 EP If It Wasn't for Trucks, though his most distinctive quality remained an unreserved emotional depth that surfaced on the 2019 breakthrough single "I Wish Grandpas Never Died," drawn from his first album, Different 'Round Here. He sustained this nostalgic balance across a run of EPs and on Ain't My Last Rodeo, the 2023 successor to his debut that introduced a new rendition of "Different 'Round Here" performed as a duet with Luke Combs. One year later he released his third album, Don't Mind If I Do, which entered the country Top Ten and reached the pop Top 40.
Born in Alabama, Green maintained parallel interests in athletics and music while growing up. His grandfather Bufford Green, who managed a music venue during Riley's youth, served as his early musical influence. After enrolling at Jacksonville State University, Green shifted focus toward a career in entertainment. He put out a self-titled EP in 2013. The next year he joined the cast of Redneck Island, CMT's country-themed version of Survivor. That appearance expanded his reach and attracted new listeners, whom he engaged by issuing the Bury Me in Dixie EP in 2015 and the County Line EP in 2016. Outlaws Like Us followed in 2017. In June 2018 Green released the In a Truck Right Now EP, which contained the title track and the successful single "There Was This Girl." Another EP, Get That Man a Beer, surfaced in June 2019 ahead of his debut album, Different 'Round Here, that September. The record arrived at number 11 on Billboard's Country charts and produced the hit ballad "I Wish Grandpas Never Died," which climbed to 12 on Country Airplay.
Green began 2020 with Valley Road, an EP of acoustic takes on five of his earlier songs, then ended the year with If It Wasn't for Trucks, an EP of five original tracks that included the Randy Owen duet "Better Than Me." Behind the Bar appeared the following year. Early 2022 brought the live concert album We Out Here: Live together with the EP There Was This Girl. In 2023 Green scored another success by recruiting Luke Combs for a collaborative version of the title track from his debut album. Joined by "Raised Up Right" and "Mississippi or Me," the updated "Different 'Round Here" anchored his second album, Ain't My Last Rodeo, released in October; it reached number two on Billboard's Country Airplay charts. Green moved quickly to another EP, issuing Way Out Here in April 2024. The set functioned as a preview for his third full-length, Don't Mind If I Do, which arrived six months later and highlighted several key singles including "Jesus Saves" and "Worst Way." Don't Mind If I Do carried Green's familiar combination of upbeat rural party anthems and reflective material, becoming his strongest chart performer to date by reaching number eight on the country charts and 25 on the Billboard 200.
