Biography
Emerging amid the bro country-pop surge of the mid-2010s, Dylan Scott infused the style with an affable appeal akin to Luke Bryan while weaving in R&B-tinged grooves drawn from Sam Hunt’s influence. His airplay successes highlighted a robust vocal approach with gritty edges, a persona blending confident bravado and tender romance, and lyrics celebrating both romance and vehicles yet leaving space for introspection. Those qualities surfaced clearly on the self-titled Dylan Scott album from 2016, which gained traction the following year through the strong-performing singles “My Girl” and “Hooked.” He later honored the late Keith Whitley with the 2019 EP An Old Memory and secured another Billboard Country Airplay Top Ten placement via “Nobody” in 2020. “New Truck” ascended to the summit of that same ranking in 2021, paving the way for his sophomore full-length Livin’ My Best Life in 2022 and its deluxe edition Livin’ My Best Life (Still) in 2024.
Born October 22, 1990, in Bastrop, Louisiana, Dylan Scott is the offspring of Scotty Robinson, a guitarist who backed Freddy Fender and additional country performers. He acquired instrumental skills during childhood and, upon reaching his late teens, committed to a professional path. At seventeen he cut a four-song demo alongside songwriter and producer Charlie Craig; the recording drew notice from Curb Records, prompting the label to sign him before his nineteenth birthday. His first single, “Makin’ This Boy Go Crazy,” surfaced in 2013 and climbed to number 54 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, serving as the centerpiece for a self-titled 2014 EP. “Lay It on Me” followed late that year, yet it was “Crazy Over Me” that cracked the Billboard Country Top 40 in 2015.
The full-length Dylan Scott project reached stores in August 2016, after which “My Girl” advanced steadily to the pinnacle of the Billboard Country Airplay chart by summer 2017. Once that track achieved its peak, “Hooked” was positioned as the subsequent single in August 2017 and attained the number-two spot on Country Airplay. A holiday-themed EP titled Merry Christmas appeared during the 2017 festive season.
October 2018 brought the Stripped EP, offering stripped-back, predominantly acoustic interpretations drawn from the debut album. Close behind arrived “Nothing to Do Town,” the lead single culled from second-album sessions; the track peaked at number 43 on Billboard’s Country Airplay tally and anchored an EP of the same name released in April 2019. Several months afterward Scott issued An Old Memory, a collection of Keith Whitley covers. Later in 2019 he presented Merry Christmas, his inaugural full holiday album. The 2021 single “Nobody” climbed to number two on the country songs chart by June and earned gold certification. Five months later “New Truck” delivered another hit. As 2021 drew to a close, Scott revealed plans for his first headlining tour, scheduled to begin in February 2022.
“New Truck” earned an additional Billboard Country Airplay Top Ten finish and anchored the second studio album Livin’ My Best Life, which arrived in August 2022. Although it did not match the debut’s commercial reach, the set still attained number 12 on the Country Albums chart and registered on Billboard’s Hot 100. In 2023 he released “This Town’s Been Good to Us,” a tribute to his Louisiana roots. The track appeared on the deluxe edition of the sophomore album, Livin’ My Best Life (Still), issued in March 2024 with additional cuts including “I’ll Be A Bartender,” the Top 40 Hot Country Songs entry “What He’ll Never Have,” and “Boys Back Home” featuring Dylan Marlowe.
