Craig Campbell, a singer, songwriter, pianist, and native of Georgia, favors a traditional approach within modern country music. His deep, expressive voice, deep knowledge of the genre’s roots, and preference for unadorned performances allow the honesty of his material to shine. In the early 2000s he met singer Mindy Ellis; romance followed and they married. He soon played piano on her studio sessions and tours. Keith Stegall saw him perform at The Stage in 2008, prompting a signing to Bigger Picture. The label issued his debut single “Family Man” in 2010 and the self-titled album in 2011. Never Regret, his second full-length, arrived in 2013. Three years later he signed with ABC Music, which reissued Never Regret as an expanded two-disc set. In 2018 he released the See You Try EP and the single “Outskirts of Heaven.” More than 15 singles followed between 2019 and 2024. August 2024 brought the seven-track compilation Almost Greatest Hits, containing six charting singles plus the bonus cut “Sadder Day.”

Born in Lyons, Georgia, Campbell played piano at his mother’s Baptist church from age ten until he turned eighteen. Gospel filled the family home, yet country music also drew him in, above all Travis Tritt, whose rootsy fusion of country and gospel matched Campbell’s vocal style. As a teenager he formed the band Out of the Blue and worked the bar circuit, learning how to build sets, command stages, and hold audiences.

Campbell relocated to Nashville in 2002 and immersed himself in the city’s music scene. He landed regular gigs at The Stage on historic Lower Broadway and recorded demos for other artists. Fellow Georgian Luke Bryan urged him to try songwriting; Campbell sharpened the skill by testing new material live. He met singer Mindy Ellis again, they married, and he joined her band on piano, which led to a touring stint with Tracy Byrd.

Keith Stegall caught one of Campbell’s shows at The Stage in 2008, resulting in the Bigger Picture contract. The label released “Family Man” in 2010 and the debut album the following year. The single reached number 12 on the Country Singles chart; “Fish” and “When I Get There” also entered the Country Top 40. Campbell maintained a demanding tour schedule, and Bigger Picture issued Never Regret in May 2013. Two tracks charted: “Outta My Head” at number 25 and “Keep Them Kisses Comin’” at number 15. In May 2014 the label announced its closure. As Bigger Picture’s best-selling artist with a solid chart record, Campbell drew new interest and signed with Red Bow Records in December 2014. May 2015 brought his first single for the label, “Tomorrow Tonight.” A year later “Outskirts of Heaven” appeared and peaked at 24 on Hot Country Songs.

In 2018 Campbell arranged for ABC Music to re-release Never Regret as a double-disc package that added his 2011 debut. He continued issuing singles and videos in the following years, among them “Never Mine” in 2021. Via Grindstone Recordings, the label he and Mindy co-own and operate, he released Almost Greatest Hits in 2024. The mini-album gathered six charting singles dating back to “Family Man” and added the previously unreleased “Sadder Day,” which he chose because it recalled the sound of his first album.
