Biography
Jason Michael Carroll emerged as a country performer whose rustic foundations intertwined with a distinctly rock-oriented bite. Growing up under the constraints of a devout household in North Carolina, he encountered minimal exposure to mainstream country sounds outside religious settings. After completing high school and taking a job at an automotive firm, he received an invitation to perform with the regional group Chasin' Country. By 2004 he had departed that ensemble to link up with Steel Kickin', another area act. Buoyed by increasing assurance in his singing, Carroll that year competed on Fox's "Gimme the Mike" and claimed victory. Shortly thereafter he began serving as an opener for Brad Paisley, Neal McCoy, and additional established country acts. These cumulative performances culminated in a 2006 recording contract with Arista Nashville Records. His first full-length project, Waitin' in the Country, arrived the following year, while the 2009 follow-up Growing Up Is Getting Old included the hit single "Where I'm From". The 2011 release Numbers appeared under the Cracker Barrel imprint.
