Biography
Randall King, whose style pays open homage to classic country with George Strait as a particular guiding light, first drew a loyal regional audience in his home state of Texas through the independent 2016 EP Another Bullet. Strong streaming performance greeted his self-titled debut album in 2018, which in turn secured a contract with Warner Nashville. The imprint later released the 2022 EP Shot Glass and the 2024 album Into the Neon.
Raised in the modest West Texas community of Hereford as the son of a truck driver, King heard George Strait, Keith Whitley, and Merle Haggard regularly at home. He relocated to Lubbock in 2009 to pursue a business degree at Texas Tech. College exposure to local artists such as Josh Abbott led him to pick up music himself. Two years afterward he moved to South Plains College, where he trained in music production while continuing to perform on his own. He assembled the Americana outfit the Randall King Band, which issued the album Old Dirt Road before disbanding, after which he chose to pursue a solo career in traditional country.
The 2016 EP Another Bullet preceded the 2018 independent release of the single “Tuggin’ on My Heartstrings” and his self-titled full-length debut. That project brought King to Warner Nashville’s roster. His first Warner EP, 2020’s Leanna, contained the streaming success “Takin’ It as It Comes,” while subsequent tracks such as “Record High” and “You in a Honky Tonk” previewed the next album and reinforced his traditionalist approach. Shot Glass arrived in early 2022. In January 2024 King delivered his second studio album, Into the Neon, which he co-produced with Jared Conrad and which merged an ’80s country sensibility with modern touches; the set featured the single “I Could Be That Rain.”
