A*Teens, an Über-ABBA tribute outfit, formed around four Stockholm, Sweden adolescents—Marie Serneholt, Sara Lumholdt, Dhani Lennevald, and Amit Paul. Work on their first album, The ABBA Generation, got under way in 1998; two years afterward the quartet reached the top of the European charts with a version of “Mamma Mia,” replicating the summit ABBA itself had attained exactly twenty-five years earlier. That debut disc also offered updated takes on other ABBA staples, among them “Dancing Queen,” “S.O.S.,” and “Take a Chance on Me.” Following joint dates with *N Sync and Britney Spears plus a slot on Nickelodeon’s All That tour during summer 2000, the group issued its sophomore effort, Teen Spirit, which introduced newly written songs. Spring 2002 brought a cover of Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” which the band performed on Nickelodeon’s Slime Time Live in late May; the track later appeared on A*Teens’ third album, Pop ’Til You Drop, released by Universal that June.
