Alois Gromer entered the world in Bavaria during 1946 before establishing residences across England, India, and Morocco, experiences that expanded his musical preferences along with his approach to performance. Exposure to a Vilayat Khan sitar recital proved transformative, prompting him to commit his existence and creative output entirely to mastering the instrument. Training under Imrat Khan led to his induction into the Khan-i-Gharana dynasty in 1975, at which point he incorporated the Khan surname. His reflective yet modern musical perspective earned favor within radio and television composition circles, while also attracting collaborations with forward-thinking musicians including Deuter, Amon Düül, and Florian Fricke from Popul Vuh. Albums released under his name, such as Mahogany Nights, Space Hotel, and Kamasutra, received praise for their fluid integration of skill, heritage, and innovation. The year 1999 brought Music From an Eastern Rosegarden, followed in the subsequent year by Almond Blossom Day, with God Perfume II appearing midway through 2000 and Sufi emerging twelve months afterward.
