Identical twins Christoph and Anton Hochheim, formerly of the Pain of Being Pure at Heart, formed their own indie pop outfit in the early 2010s under the name Ablebody. Carrying forward a style rooted in 1980s U.K. sophisti-pop acts such as Prefab Sprout, the pair unveiled the updated moniker Always You in 2020. Their first release under this banner arrived the following year with Bloom off the Rose, a Jerry Paper-produced set issued on Shelflife Records and Discos de Kirlian.

While operating as Ablebody they issued the reverb-soaked All My Everybody EP in early 2013. A shift toward a clearer production approach and stronger sophisti-pop leanings shaped their subsequent full-length, Adult Contemporaries, which appeared on Lolipop Records in late 2016 and included a guest turn by romantic indie artist Sean Nicholas Savage on the track “Send Me a Letter.” After sharing stages with the Pain of Being Pure at Heart, Beach Fossils (whom Anton joined on drums in 2017), and Jerry Paper (aka Lucas Nathan), the Los Angeles-based duo extended the warm, wistful tone of that earlier album into their next long-player, again teaming with Paper for Bloom off the Rose.
