Andy Griggs, a native of Louisiana, absorbed the music of Merle Haggard throughout his childhood before his tastes moved toward outlaw country and gospel during his college years. A brief period of study at Northeast Louisiana University ended when he returned to his hometown in the early 1990s to mourn the deaths of his father and brother. After becoming a minister and beginning a new marriage, Griggs maintained a family-centered routine yet kept returning to the guitar. That persistent pull led him to start writing original material. By 1997 he had established a foothold in Nashville. His debut album, You Won't Ever Be Lonely, arrived in 1999, achieved gold status, and yielded three Top Ten singles in "She's More," "I'll Go Crazy," and the title track. Three years afterward he reentered the country landscape with the album Freedom, whose lead single "Tonight I Wanna Be Your Man" also performed strongly on the charts. Montage Records released The Good Life in 2008.
