Biography
A specialist in ferocious, unyielding techno, Ansome—also known as Kieran Whitefield—launched his trajectory once he completed coursework in sound design and music production at a Cornwall college near his roots. Relocating to London placed him deep inside the capital’s nightlife, where he launched the nascent Disco’s Dead imprint, devoted to a fusion of dubstep and techno, even as he refined his own tracks. Whitefield’s debut, the Smeatons EP on Swiss outlet Files Records, surfaced in early 2014 and triggered a rapid succession of further outputs throughout that year. Shutting down Disco’s Dead, he established South London Analogue Material to issue both his work and that of peers; the label’s opening release was a split single shared with another South London producer, Catch. Closing the year, the Penny and Pound EP landed on Mord Records, the imprint run by techno veteran Bas Mooy. Performing live exclusively on hardware, Whitefield appeared at landmark venues including Tresor, Berghain, and Corsica Studios in London. Early 2015 brought the Hells Bells and Buckets of Blood EP via German label Mindcut, followed months later by The White Horse EP on the London-based Perc Trax. Ideal for Ali Wells’s uncompromising, industrial-focused roster, Ansome issued his first album-length statement, Stowaway, on Perc Trax in early 2016, then quickly returned with The Coffin Dodge EP on the London label Them.
