Dax J

Born in London and currently residing in Berlin, Dax J crafts raw, pounding techno and drum'n'bass as both a DJ and producer. Political unrest and paranoia permeate his dark, ominous tracks, which also incorporate lighter, atmospheric touches shaped by dub and ambient influences. During the 2000s he first turned to production with jungle records, among them a 12" for Urban Takeover and several outings on his own Xplicit Recordings. A summer spent in Ibiza sparked an obsession with techno, prompting a string of 12"s on imprints such as EarToGround Records and Deeply Rooted in the early 2010s. He established the Berlin-based Monnom Black label in 2013, issuing his own material alongside records by producers including Kaelan and Emmanuel. Further releases of his appeared on Soma and Arts Collective. Monnom Black hosted his debut full-length, Shades of Black, in 2015, an album that fused his jungle origins with a command of cold, suspenseful techno. Three EPs surfaced the following year: Chasing Shadows on Clergy, The Invisible Man on Monnom Black, and Illusions of Power on Electric Deluxe.
