Biography
French producer I Hate Models, shrouded in enigma, delivers techno steeped in industrial textures, marked by ferocious intensity and bold aggression yet laced with wistful longing and reflective undertones. His habit of dismantling established genre conventions sets him apart, incorporating elements of acid, EBM, rave culture, and trance. EPs such as Warehouse Memories in 2016 earned strong acclaim ahead of his ferocious first full-length effort, L'Âge Des Métamorphoses, issued in 2019. In 2021 he established the Disco Inferno label, which he inaugurated with further material before unveiling the EP Forever Melancholia in 2024.
Raised in Paris, the artist followed a familiar adolescent path through hip-hop, metal, and punk until encountering a remix EP that reshaped his outlook. Drawn to dance music and especially techno, I Hate Models began crafting his own strain of abrasive, industrial-edged techno, issuing the digital single "Persephone" via Dutch imprint Obscuur Records in 2015. The next year brought greater visibility through Warehouse Memories on Italy’s ARTS label, whose blend of shadowy techno, acid lines, pounding kick drums, expansive pads, and occasional vocals diverged sharply from prevailing straightforward techno fare. Additional EPs soon appeared—The Lost Tapes and 500 Lesbians in Irak—each further eroding stylistic boundaries. During 2017 he supplied multiple releases for Monnom Black, Voitax, and Khemia, delivered remixes for ABSL and Depeche Mode, and solidified his reputation as a sought-after DJ with regular European performances. In 2018 two further EPs surfaced—Midnight Cults on Khemia and Spreading Plague, his first outing for London’s Perc Trax—alongside a nearly ten-minute techno piece featured on a split single with Umwelt for his own Rave or Die label.
The 93-minute debut album L'Âge Des Métamorphoses arrived on Perc Trax in 2019, followed by another ARTS EP titled Intergalactic Emotional Breakdown. I Hate Models activated his Disco Inferno imprint in 2021 via the EP Disco Inferno 01 and the single "Werewolf Disco Club." His accelerated edit of Andre VII’s remix of El Columpio Asesino’s "Toro" surfaced in 2022 and quickly became a club staple. The 2023 collaboration "Sexy Beast" with Vitalic preceded the 2024 arrival of Forever Melancholia, which contains I Hate Models’ most emotionally charged material to date.
