Phase

In 2003 the Greek alternative and progressive rock outfit Phase assembled in Larissa, built around the skills of Thanos Grigoriou, Damos Harharidis, Vasilis Liapis, and Marios Papakostas. The quartet’s style has invited parallels with Anathema, Porcupine Tree, the Tea Party, and Alice in Chains, yet the members spent their early period refining a distinctive approach shaped by their own cited influences—David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Loreena McKennitt, and Rainbow among them—before issuing the debut single “Perdition” in 2009 and following it the next year with the full-length studio album In Consequence. Regional success prompted the group to move to Newcastle, England, where work began on its second album; that effort, The Wait, was released on Record Store Day, April 19, 2014.
