Originating from Crown Point, Indiana, Asteria launched into the regional club scene during the closing months of 2003, swiftly building an audience through their energetic brand of pop-punk. Their rising local stature earned them a slot at Region Rumble, the leading music showcase in northwest Indiana, and they collected multiple area honors throughout 2004. That momentum carried the group to the May 2005 issuance of their first full-length effort, A Lesson in Charades. Soon afterward, vocalist Terrence Kline, guitarists Seth Henderson and Ryan Gullett, drummer Sam Henderson, and bassist Brandon McQuen attracted the attention of Hawthorne Heights frontman J.T. Woodruff, who placed them on his new imprint, Carbon Copy Media. The arrangement proved short-lived, however, and by autumn 2006 the band and label had parted company. Moving forward without delay, Asteria entered the studio to track their sophomore album alongside producer John Naclerio, whose credits include Midtown and Brand New. Naclerio was sufficiently impressed to offer the group a deal on his Broken English Records roster, and their first release for the label, Slip into Something More Comfortable, arrived in February 2007.
