Biography
Hailing from Pennsylvania, punk trailblazer Adam Goren ranks among the era’s most singular musicians. Equipped solely with his signature “package,” the inventive performer crafts witty, lighthearted synth pop punk tracks laced with irreverent rhymes on offbeat subjects. Under the stage persona Atom, Goren handles every aspect of songwriting, performance, and recording himself, relying on a QY700 Music Sequencer, an RM1X music sequencer, and a B.C. Rich guitar.
The one-man, machine-driven project Atom and His Package emerged once Goren’s earlier punk band Fracture disbanded in 1995. Its catalog features a buoyant pop tribute to Irish songstress Enya titled “Pumping Iron for Enya,” the defiant “Punk Rock Academy,” and the boisterous “If You Own the Washington Redskins, You're a Cock.” Atom and His Package have crisscrossed the globe for shows, logging repeated journeys through the entire U.S.A., Canada, Japan, the U.K., Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, and Israel.
The outfit’s debut arrived in 1997 as The First CD on No Idea Records. Subsequent releases encompass A Society of People Named Elihu (October 1997, Mountain Records), Making Love (June 1999, No Idea Records), Fracture (November 1999, No Idea Records), and the EP Shopping Spree (February 2001, Sub City Records). Redefining Music followed in spring 2001. Mid-2002 brought the EP Hamburgers, after which Atom issued the full-length Attention, Blah Blah Blah early the following year. Goren’s final concert appearance was captured on the 2004 CD/DVD Hair: Debatable.
Beyond performing and composing, Atom coordinates touring, oversees publicity and promotions, and operates his own label, File-13 Records. The Atom and His Package site, www.atomandhispackage.com, offers “My Child is an Honor Student at the Punk Rock Academy” bumper stickers, “Go metric. Now.” T-shirts, and additional “Junk for Sale.”
