Bantu

Hailing from Zimbabwe yet based in Los Angeles, Bantu functions as a singer, rapper, and producer whose work fuses electronic club textures with hip-hop alongside vibrant African and reggae pulses. A Grammy nominee who surfaced in the mid-2010s, the artist has written and produced material for an array of major names that includes Jason Derulo, Rita Ora, A$AP Rocky, Camila Cabello, Pitbull, and Chris Brown.

Bantu first appeared in 2016 through the single “Holiday,” an uptempo love song that merged dynamic club and dance-pop elements with African rhythms. The track arrived alongside a provocative video portraying a young couple confronting rebel fighters, which imparted a deeper resonance to the otherwise bright recording. Follow-up singles “Roll with Me” (featuring Shungudzo and ZieZie), “Jackie Chan,” and “Juice” pursued a comparable path, foregrounding vivid reggae rhythms. In 2020 Bantu collaborated with fellow Zimbabwean Dr. Chaii on the joint EP Coming to America, Vol.1.
