Nigerian-born vocalist and composer Nonso Amadi merges the richly layered Afrobeat textures rooted in his homeland with a modern electronic R&B approach shaped partly by his Canadian years. Global recognition arrived via the 2016 smash "Tonight," which led to sustained momentum through the decade's end via heavily streamed cuts such as "Radio," "Go Outside," and "Emergency." Creative pace eased across the following stretch, yet he resurfaced in 2022 via tracks including "Foreigner" and "Eye to Eye."

Arriving in 1995, Amadi absorbed the expanding Lagos Afrobeat currents of the 2000s. Recording as a self-taught singer and player, he launched his output near 2012 during enrollment at Nigeria's Covenant University. Studies then took him to Swansea University in the U.K., where he completed a chemical engineering degree alongside continued music-making. Academic pursuits next carried him to McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, at which point his musical path began matching his scholarly one in prominence. There he introduced contemporary North American R&B touches to his assured, smooth vocals and bright Afrobeat approach, issuing the debut EP Alone in 2015. Attention followed that project, but international traction surged with two 2016 singles, above all "Tonight," which amassed millions of streams. A 2017 concert back in Nigeria preceded his four-track EP War, a joint effort with fellow Afro-fusion artist Odunsi (The Engine). Further exposure came through the 2017 Eugy team-up "Kwasia" and 2018's "No Crime," setting the stage for the 2019 EP Free.

The ensuing decade opened with the 2020 single "Kolo," a partnership with Paul Play. In 2021 he joined Public Goods and Tasha Angela for "Magic," before issuing the solo 2022 cuts "Foreigner" and "Eye to Eye."
