In 1960, Bart Kaell came into the world as Bart Gyselinkck in the East Flemish town of Oudenaarde. After completing his musical studies in Antwerp, he made two failed attempts to become Belgium’s Eurovision representative, placing third at the 1983 Eurosong selection with “Symphonie” and finishing second four years afterward with “Carrousel.” While his music career gained momentum through the chart successes “Ik Vlieg” and “Eenzaam Zonder Jou,” Kaell simultaneously built a parallel profile on Flemish television, fronting local editions of Stars in Their Eyes under the title Soundmixshow and Wheel of Fortune as Rad van Fortuin. His quarter-century milestone arrived in 2008 with the release of a compilation album that reached the national Top Ten.
